Gambling activities are offered at land-based venues such as casinos, bars, and community clubs. Gambling activities are also offered online and can be accessed by mobile phones at any time and any place. In Australia, there has been an increase in online sports betting among young men. Some young men only bet online, while others gamble both online and at land-based venues. Most gambling research has focused on individual characteristics, such as personality. Little research has looked at the influence of environmental features on gambling behaviours. Environmental features include the convenience and social norms associated with different types of gambling. The marketing tactics used by the gambling industry also have an impact on gambling behaviours. The aim of this research was to examine the environmental features that influenced the sport betting behaviours of Australian young men. It looked at factors that contributed to risky gambling for both online and land-based sport betting.
