This report examines how gambling is changing in New South Wales and its impacts youth. It also looks at new gambling and gambling-like products impacting youth. The report focuses on both regulated and unregulated gambling products. The authors sought to answer two questions:
The authors conducted a survey of young adults aged 18-29 years old from New South Wales. They found that the older cohort (25-29) were more likely to take part in traditional forms of gambling . The younger cohort (18-24) were more likely to use newer forms of gambling. The younger cohort also used both traditional and emerging gambling types. Both cohorts were exposed to gambling through their household.
These findings show the changing landscape of gambling and new types of gambling. They also suggest that emerging forms of gambling could lead to young adults starting gambling sooner. The authors suggest conducting more research on new forms of gambling and how it impacts vulnerable populations.
